The Learjet 45 and its 45XR uprate are the value proposition of the super light category out of Naples. Slightly less range than a Phenom 300 but faster in cruise, the 45 lets a client pull the trigger on a late-morning Chicago-to-APF trip and be at the FBO in Naples before dinner without stretching a light jet’s block time.
Bombardier certified the Learjet 45 in 1997 and the higher-thrust 45XR followed in 2003, extending payload and hot-and-high performance. The airframe is a clean-sheet design, not derived from the earlier Learjet 30-series, and it introduced fly-by-wire spoilers on a Learjet for the first time. The stand-up cabin, still one of the tightest in the super light class, is trimmed for eight in a standard club-and-two configuration.

Why the Learjet 45 Fits Naples
APF’s 6,600-foot main runway works for a 45XR out of Naples afternoons even at MTOW; the earlier 45 wants a cooler morning or a partial fuel load in July and August. Operators used to running the type into APF plan the departure temperature into their trip sheet rather than treating it as unlimited-payload equipment.
The 2,000-nautical-mile range of the 45XR covers most of the Naples snowbird map: TEB, HPN, MMU, BED, and PWK all land nonstop with a full cabin, and the type will make it to Chicago Executive with fuel to hold. What it will not do reliably is a nonstop Toronto to APF trip with headwinds; if the answer is YYZ, budget a tech stop in Erie or Cleveland.
