Naples McDonnell Douglas MD-11F Charter

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11F is a trijet widebody freighter, first delivered to FedEx in 1991 (last unit to Lufthansa Cargo February 22, 2001) and still flying in commercial cargo service. Naples-market cargo through MIA is where the MD-11F fits; RSW does not routinely handle the airframe.

Two flight crew. Main-deck cargo volume 15,530 cubic feet (around 440 cubic meters); lower deck adds around 5,566 cubic feet. Range 3,592 nautical miles at max payload of around 200,000 pounds (90.7 metric tons); reduced payload extends much further. Cruise Mach 0.82, ceiling 43,000 feet. Length 200.8 feet, wingspan 169.5 feet.

Why the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F Fits Naples

MIA is the operational field. The MD-11F sits between the 767F and the 747-400F on capacity, and fits medium-heavy widebody cargo missions to Europe (Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Frankfurt), South America (Sao Paulo, Bogota), and West Africa.

For Naples-market oversized outbound (marine engines, yacht parts, industrial equipment consolidated at MIA), the MD-11F is a working option when the 767F is undersized and the 747F is more airframe than the cargo needs.

Fleet is shrinking: last delivery was 2001 and operator availability continues to decline year over year. For a Naples-market cargo mission that has flexibility on aircraft type, expect the broker to substitute a 767F or 777F when the MD-11F is not available.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
